I'm down in Cleveland this weekend talking about HICK Tech at NotACon. Our small town "con"ference has been very well received. They want to know more about the Grey County broadband initiative (and are fascinated by the idea of OMAFRA funding broadband), they want to know why we've got such an amazing line-up of speakers. ("But how did you manage to get Flickr AND Yahoo! Canada AND the Guardian to come to a Canadian hockey arena?!".) They can't believe we're carbon neutral and waste-free. They're baffled that we're using local beef and grains for our meals. They love the fact that we're looking at both high tech issues and taking punkin' chuckin' seriously. My slides are available on-line. The main message of my presentation is how to organize your own successful community event. There will also be a recording released on the NotACon Web site of the presentation.
Are you coming from out of town? HICK Tech is a full day event and we recommend you come in on Tuesday night so that you're ready to roll on Wednesday morning. (It's possible there might even be an unofficial meet and greet on Tuesday evening.) If need a hotel room, please check in with Inn on the Bay. They are directly across the parking lot from The Bayshore. When you call to reserve please be sure to tell them you are registering for HICK Tech. We have negotiated a small discount on your behalf! Additional information about Inn on the Bay is available from their Web site or you can call them at: 1-866-719-9208.
If you need a ride or are able to provide a ride, please let us know! If there are enough people coming from Toronto we might rent a van to bring everyone up. If you can, please car pool!
Thank you to ReNEWED COMPUTERS (Owen Sound) and The 100 Mile Market (Meaford) for their sponsorship of this year's HICK Tech. It's wonderful to have the support of businesses that I know and love to shop at myself.
Only 29 days 'til HICK Tech. If you haven't registered yet, now would be the perfect time...go register now for the second annual HICK Tech rural and technology forum!
Were you at the mini-conference Arts, Business, Creativity – The ABC’s of Success sponsored by the Business Enterprise Centre (Owen Sound and area) today? If not... why not? Shame on you! Just in case you missed the presentation, or you wanted to review the slides again... here you go!
Please note...these are just the slides and they might not make a lot of sense without my monologue. If you were at the presentation you might want to skip straight to the end of the slides to see the seven steps that I recommended at the end. Even if you're on dial-up you should be able to see the text-only version of the presentation without waiting a million years for the slides to load. Just scroll down...
