Using Moodle: Open Source Technology and the Future of Learning

Our students are changing, their needs are changing, our understanding of learning is changing, our student population is declining (rapidly) and on top of it all, our technology is changing.

In an effort to address many of the challenges of change, The Bluewater District School Board has implemented Moodle as part of its blended learning plan. Moodle is a free open source web-based learning management system (LMS) built on sound pedagogical principals. It has taken the world of learning technologies by storm, becoming the fastest growing and most talked about learning management system in higher education.

This interactive workshop will examine:

1. The advantage of using open source applications.
2. The open source business model.
3. The challenges of implementation a learning management system.
4. The impact and advantages of using technology in a blended learning context.
5. The role of technology in the future of our students in rural areas.

The session will be of interest to ICT professionals and entrepreneurs, corporate trainers and educators.

Testimonials

Emma helped take the Spinners' Quarterly website from a vague idea in my head to a complete, functional web presence. She was able to transform my non-tech questions into sound e-business ideas and to turn work around quickly every time, no matter how big or small the request. Emma is a pleasure to work with and I would strongly recommend her services if you are looking at developing or improving a website.
